Memphis AMICAE of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
The
Memphis Zeta Amicae Chapter grew out of a Mother and Daughter Club that
was organized in 1943. This club later changed their name to Memphis
Zeta Amicae and was chartered by the sorority in January 1959.The original members of the organization were: *Annie Higgins, Joy Horne, *Onie Hunt, *Sadye Stokely, *Nell Osborne, *Anna Morris, *Evelyn Spillers, Mary Lou Taylor, *Ezzie Woods.
NOTE: Joy Horne (104 years old) and Mary Lou Taylor are "Members Emeritus."
The Memphis Zeta Amicae chapter is actively involved in the community. Donations are given to LeMoyne-Owen College, Memphis Branch Urban League, St. Jude Hospital and others. Scholarships are also awarded. The Amicae also actively support a contestant during the annual Blue Revue. One-third of the money they raise is returned to the chapter.
A basket, the "Essential Basket", is given quarterly to a deserving individual in the community. Appropriately named, this basket contains items such as soap, tissue, kleenex, etc.
